1. Do I have to be a specific denomination in order to join? No, Sigma Alpha Omega is a non-denominational/inter-denominational organization. As long as you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you are eligible to join. We welcome all women who love Jesus Christ and don't discriminate any certain denominations. As God said, "I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me." (Proverbs 8:17)
2. Is Sigma Alpha Omega Pan-Hellenic? No, the sorority is officially recognized as a national non-profit organization. We follow a different schedule for information sessions and recruitment.
3. What's different about Sigma Alpha Omega than any other sorority and why is it different from a fellowship on grounds? Sigma Alpha Omega sisters plan and participate in socials, fundraising, service, retreat, ministries and Bible studies. The sorority consists of and is led directly by Radford students, which helps build leadership and communication skills in all sisters. Sisters also meet and connect with other active and alumni sisters at the Sigma Alpha Omega National Convention every year. We are joyful to grow in our relationship with the Lord as Godly women.
4. Does Sigma Alpha Omega have any alcohol/hazing policies? Yes. We must follow the federal, state, provincial, college/university regulations on alcohol consumption and hazing according to national sorority policies. There is to be no consumption of alcohol at sorority functions and/or while wearing Sigma Alpha Omega shirts. We also recommend leaders not to drink alcohol even if of age to set examples for our members. Our sorority does not tolerate any hint of hazing (subtle, harassment and violent) in alignment with Jesus’ commandment to “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” (Luke 6:31).
